Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is a fairly recent method of performing sclerotherapy which allows treatment of diseased large and small veins not visible on the surface simply by injection of a solution under ultrasound guidance.   Not long ago these veins had to be treated by vein stripping requiring an expensive hospital stay and lengthy recuperation.

Ultrasound scanning is used to accurately locate abnormal subsurface veins and then guide the needle to allow safe injection of veins which could not otherwise be treated.

A recent modification of ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is the use of STS as a foam.  This is even more effective than the use of STS as a solution.

Compression stockings are then worn for two to three weeks to compress the treated veins and allow healing. There is no down time and normal activities are pursued.  Office follow up is required to monitor effectiveness of treatment.
