Endovenous Laser Ablation |

|
Endovenous Laser Ablation is a no down time alternative to surgical stripping of the Saphenous Veins. A small laser fiber is inserted through a needle placed through the skin into the damaged vein. Laser energy, which is very hot, is delivered inside the vein cauterizing the inside of the vein. The vein turns into scar tissue as it heals. The procedure is done in-office under local anesthesia. Following the procedure a compression hose is placed on the treated leg. Most patients drive themselves home and are able to work the next day and all patients are ambulatory. Post treatment soreness is treated only with Ibuprofen or Aleve for the vast majority of patients.
Endovenous Laser Ablation is FDA-approved for the treatment of the Great Saphenous Vein and is also being used for treatment of the Short Saphenous Vein and smaller branches as well. The latest studies show the procedure to be as high as 98% effective in closing these veins. |
